Dr. Larry W. Dupree is Chair of the Department of Aging and Mental Health (AMH) at the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute, University of South Florida , and Co-Chair of the Florida Coalition for Optimal Mental Health and Aging. He previously served as AMH Chair from 1983-1989, and director/founder of several clinical programs at FMHI: the Gerontology Alcohol Project, the Community Aging Program, the Substance Abuse Program for the Elderly, and the Mature Adult Counseling Center. In addition, he helped to develop and co-direct other projects at the university such as the Geriatric Education Center, and the graduate mental health counseling track in the USF Dept. of Gerontology. In addition, he aided in the development of residential and day treatment substance abuse programs for elders in Florida, California, and Michigan, and has published extensively on mental health and substance abuse issues related to older adults.

Dr. Dupree also co-chaired the Older Adult Work Group of the Florida Commission on Mental Health and Substance Abuse (a legislatively mandated commission tasked to review Florida's public sector mental health and substance abuse systems), and served as a member of the executive committee of USF's Institute on Aging. In addition, Dr. Dupree consults to Florida's Department of Elder Affairs, as well as the Department of Children and Families (DCF: Florida's mental health and substance abuse program office). Recently, he was a member of the DCF Older Adult Performance Outcome Measures Task Force. In 1998, he founded the statewide Florida Coalition for Optimal Mental Health and Aging to improve the availability and quality of mental health and substance abuse services through advocacy, training, education, research, and increased public awareness addressing the mental health and substance abuse needs of older Floridians and their families.

Dr. Dupree has presented and consulted to state, federal and international organizations on substance abuse among older adults, as well as later-life onset psychopathology. Also, he has consulted to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in the development of national treatment guidelines for older substance abusers. In addition, Dr. Dupree has served as a clinical consultant to the University of South Florida (College of Medicine) Memory Disorders Clinic, as well as co-PI in studies evaluating behavioral effects of experimental drugs related to cognitive impairment in older adults. Dr. Dupree received his doctorate in clinical psychology.
