Stephen Ferrante, MSW, Co-Chair, Florida Coalition for Optimal Mental Health & Aging Mr. Stephen Ferrante graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a Bachelors (B.S.) in Psychology. He received his Masters (M.S.W.) Degree in Social Work from Florida International University. Mr. Ferrante has dedicated his professional career to working in the human services field with various populations and age groups. He has been employed by Broward County over the past 15 years providing direct services, specifically with older adults during the last 14 years. During his employment with Broward County, Mr. Ferrante has worked primarily for the Elderly and Veterans Services Division. At this Division, he began as a case manager and is currently the Director with responsibility for oversight of community care, mental health, substance abuse and support services to Broward's elders and veterans. He has had the opportunity to manage several Division projects and has represented the Agency and its model services locally, statewide and nationally as a presenter. His work has included advocacy, grant writing, program development, implementation and training. He has been an active partner with consumer operated programs and drop-in centers. Mr. Ferrante has served as a board member for non-profit organizations, and has received outstanding service awards. In 1996, Mr. Ferrante was awarded Case Management Supervisor of the Year by the National Association of Case Management. In 1999, he was given an EPIC Award, (Exceptional People Impacting the Community), by the Mental Health Association of Broward County. In 2002, he received the Innovator Award from the University of South Florida, Louis de Parte Florida Mental Health Institute as well as the TIMES (Targeting Individuals for Meritorious and Exemplary Service) Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) of Broward County. In 2004, Mr. Ferrante was selected as the Social Worker of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers in Broward County. Mr. Ferrante is the President of the Aging Affiliate of the Florida Association of Counties and board member of the Florida Council on Aging as well as the Florida Association of Aging Service Providers. He serves as Co-Chair of the Florida Coalition for Optimal Mental Health and Aging, Broward Aging Alliance, and is Chair of the Broward Coalition for Optimal Behavioral Health and Aging. |
