Carole A. Green, Secretary
Florida Department of Elder Affairs
Tallahassee

Governor Jeb Bush appointed Ms. Carole Green as the Secretary of the Department of Elder Affairs in March 2005. She brings experience from a 30-year career in healthcare and public service to the agency. Prior to her appointment as Secretary, Ms. Green served as the Director of the Office of Long-term Care Policy, appointed by Governor Bush in 2004. Beginning in 1998, she served as Florida State Representative for District 75 representing parts of Lee and Collier counties for six years and served as chair of the House Elder & Long-term Care Committee (2000-2002) and the House Subcommittee on Health Appropriations (2002-2004).

A Florida resident since 1987, Ms. Green was elected in 1994 to the governing board for Lee County's primary health system, Lee Memorial Health System, and served until 1998. In addition, she served as the past-president of the Lee Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was the first chair of the development board for the Children's Hospital at HealthPark. Upon winning her seat in the Florida House of Representatives in 1998, Ms. Green subsequently served on the Committee on the Future of Florida's Families, the Committee on Health Care, the Policy Committee, the Committee on Appropriations, the Select Committee on Medical Liability Insurance, the Select Committee on Constitutional Amendments, the Select Committee on Nursing Homes and the Subcommittee on Elder Affairs and Long-term Care.

Ms. Green's healthcare experience began at the age of 14, when she became a volunteer at her hometown hospital of Vandalia, Illinois. Trained at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiation Oncology/Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, she has more than 30 years of experience as a radiation therapist and caregiver for cancer patients.

In 2003, the Miami Herald ranked Ms. Green the seventh most effective legislator and highest-ranked female legislator in the Florida House of Representatives. Additionally, in 2003, she received the Florida Assisted Living Affiliation's Legislator of the Year award, the Florida Council on Aging advocacy award and the Florida College of Emergency Physicians Legislator of the Year in the House of Representatives.

Ms. Green and her husband Jack have been married 26 years. She has two stepchildren and four grandchildren and currently resides in Tallahassee.
