Mr. Juan Harris joined Hanley Center in 1997, where he began a career and a deep commitment to the field of recovery services. Mr. Harris became a certified counselor in 2000, and was named program manager of the renowned Center for Older Adult Recovery in 2004. Besides supervisory responsibilities, he designs group programs and evaluates aging population trends in directing this evolving program. The Center for Older Adult Recovery, a pioneer in the treatment of addiction among older adults, is expanding its residential program in 2005.
Mr. Harris, an alumnus of the nonprofit Jay Ministry, Palm Beach County, is now a dedicated volunteer and Board member. He runs weekly sessions for men in treatment for alcohol and chemical addictions, and has been instrumental in developing men's life skill programs for J.A.Y. Ministry.
Mr. Harris is a frequent presenter about substance abuse prevention, treatment and recovery in the community and has been a popular and compelling speaker for student symposiums and classes at Palm Beach Community College, Lynn University, Florida Atlantic University and Northwood University. He was nominated for the Professional of the Year Award, Florida School of Addiction Studies, and has been invited to participate in counselor certification panels for the Florida Certification Board. He has also presented to professionals in the health and social services for the elderly.
Mr. Harris received a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University and is attending Palm Beach Atlantic University, where he is completing his Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Substance Abuse. His scholastic honors include membership in Phi Beta Kappa at Palm Beach Community College, and he was vice president of Phi Beta Kappa at Florida Atlantic University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.
