Shannon A. Martin, MSW Ms. Shannon Martin received her Master's in Social Work and graduate gerontology certification from the University of Georgia in 1997. She has a passion for working with older adults and became interested in the many issues facing older adults and their families through a college course and volunteer work. While attending graduate school, Ms. Martin coordinated activities for residents with dementia at a local nursing facility and conducted research on caregiver and grief issues. After receiving her M.S.W., she served as social services director and admissions coordinator in an assisted living/skilled nursing facility. Shannon also worked as a social worker and volunteer coordinator for a large hospice in Atlanta, GA. Ms. Martin spent the past few years managing programs for a large non-profit educational organization. During her tenure at this organization, their programs experienced tremendous growth and the organization won yearly awards. This experience enabled Ms. Martin to broaden her marketing and public speaking skills. Ms. Martin feels that the biggest contribution she can make to care management is to educate professionals and the public about the excellent benefits of this service. Combining her love for older adults and years of experience in gerontology with her marketing and training background, She hopes to expand the role of Aging Wisely in the community to further help seniors. Ms. Martin takes an active role in community education and awareness by participating in numerous organizations and committees. She currently serves as co-chair of the Florida Coalition for Mental Health and Aging-Suncoast Chapter and the Pinellas Partnership for End of Life Care. She provides education throughout the community on elder care issues. Presentations include: "Dementia: A Practical Workshop for Dealing with Difficult Behaviors", "The Social and Emotional Issues of Retirement", and "Elder Care and You: Navigating the Caregiving Maze". Ms. Martin spends her free time reading, exercising, going to the beach and traveling with her husband. |
