This session will provide a brief-detailed overview of the need for substance abuse and mental health services among adults age 60 and older. Discussion will focus on current service initiatives, policies, and funding that promote early identification, engagement, and service retention for this population and ultimately reduce the need for long-term, intensive service placements outside the home. The session will also provide an overview of the current planning and service coordination initiatives being facilitated by the Department of Children and Families, the Department of Elder Affairs, and the University of South Florida - Florida Mental Health Institute, and other key stakeholders throughout Florida. The Florida BRITE project, currently funded by the Department of Children and Families, will be discussed along with the department's strategic planning focus on enhancing service provision for older adults. |
