| Abstract: |
The presenter will discuss the application of problem-solving skills training with depressed older adults in this workshop. Problem-solving training is a brief, behavioral approach to treating depression that can effectively reduce older adults' depression. This approach can be applied in a variety of settings, including primary care. The theoretical rationale for this approach and research evidence will be briefly reviewed. Most of the session time will be focused on the application of problem solving skills training with depressed older adults, including description of the seven steps of problem solving, case examples to illustrate their use with depressed elders, and tips for addressing common challenges. |
| Goal: |
The participant will become familiar with a structured problem-solving process and be able to apply some of the skills with depressed older adults. |

The participants will identify how to assist a depressed older adult to define problems and develop potential solutions. |
